Laura
Webster - Owner & Director
Laura Webster is the Owner and Director of Omni Yoga Center.
Laura has been a Certified Iyengar Instructor since 1994.
She experienced many different forms of yoga including Bikram
and various Hatha yoga methods before deciding on the Iyengar
method. Laura found that the precision and alignment principles
of the Iyengar method helped her tremendously with the 2 herniated
discs in her lumbar spine, a torn rotator cuff in her shoulder,
and various injuries she had acquired from other experiences.
Laura began teaching Hatha yoga in 1984 and changed to the Iyengar
method in 1990. She has taught people of all ages, physical conditions,
and body types including professional golfers and other athletes
in the Kingwood/Humble area. She also has taught corporate classes
at Massage Associates and Wellness Center, at Quality Publishing,
the creators of Inside Houston Magazine, Vines Accounting
Firm, and at ExxonMobil. Laura has taken college level anatomy
and physiology to broaden her understanding of the body and how
it works. She has trained and continues to train with some of
the top teachers in the Iyengar system, including Geeta Iyengar,
as she endeavors to further her own yoga education.
Complementing her yoga training, Laura has taken courses in Silva Mind Control, Quantum Physics, Body Talk, neuroscience, energy medicine, and continues to study at Ramtha's School of Enlightenment. She has served as Director of Sunday School and President of the Board of Directors of Unity Community Church, the first place she taught a yoga class. She has also done volunteer work at Dr. Gerald Jampolsky's Center For Attitudinal Healing.
Laura graduated from Texas Tech University with a BA in history and taught middle school and high school history. She also studied at the Quad-Cities Graduate Center in Moline, Illinois. After having 2 children, Laura opened Child's Play Drop-In Child Care in the Kingwood Area and took care of preschool children and toddlers. She also taught hunt seat equitation for 14 years. She now resides in Kingwood with her family.
Jann has been practicing Iyengar yoga since 2001. While pursuing
her first career as a geologist in the oil industry, she initially
explored yoga to help heal a repetitive strain injury and to train
her mind and body to better handle the physical and mental stresses
in the workplace. Observing the benefits she and many colleagues
derived from yoga, after retiring in 2004 she determined to develop
a second career as a yoga instructor. She seeks out workshops
with highly qualified teachers in the Iyengar system and explores
yoga instruction in other cities and countries when traveling.
She is developing her teaching practice with an emphasis on classes
for the workplace and for seniors. Originally from Oklahoma and
a graduate of Rice University, Jann now resides in Kingwood with
her husband and two cats.
Britt Duque has studied yoga on and off since 1999. She has taken
courses in Kripalu, Hatha, Bikram, and the Iyengar method that
she continues to study today. Britt found yoga after it was recommended
to her as treatment for chronic neck pain. Not only has yoga provided
relief for her neck, she also discovered a sense of mind and body
power that enable her everyday life. Britt has 2 young children and she testifies to the benefits
of yoga in maintaining strength, flexibility, and focus in preparation
for childbirth and motherhood. Aside from her personal yoga
development, Britt understands the need for entertainment as
well as physical and mental challenges for children. Britt teaches
the Half Moon Tot and Sun Circle Kids courses offered at Kingwood
Yoga Plus for children ages 5-12. Prior to teaching yoga, Britt
worked as an energy consultant for 10 years. Her experience teaching children includes
children's swim lessons, downhill skiing, and guided nature tours
for kids. Britt enjoys the enthusiasm and energy of children as they learn,
experience, and grow with new concepts. Britt is originally
from Washington state, has a BA in Economics and Political Science
from the University of Rochester in Rochester, NY and a Masters in Public
Policy with a concentration in International Regulatory Affairs from Georgetown
University in Washington DC.
Michele Dykstra has been a student of Iyengar yoga since 2001
and often states that finding yoga was like coming home. Her interest
in discovering more about yoga led her to try various classes,
styles, and teachers in Houston, New Orleans, Michigan, and Oklahoma
City. One aspect of her yoga study that really speaks to Michele
is the ability to adapt yoga principles in everyday life leading
to a much more fulfilling existence. Her background as a consultant
reflects her ability as a teacher to cater to the needs and challenges
of her individual students, focusing on mom and moms-to-be. Yoga
strongly influenced Michele's life as she underwent infertility
treatments and a successful pregnancy. Labor and delivery were
also aided by yoga tools gained through course work, reading,
videos, and further study. Teaching from experience has Michele
chartering a Mommy & Me class and also guiding Pre-Natal sessions.
Originally from Michigan and a graduate of Oklahoma State University,
Michele now calls Texas home.
